Have the British Gone Insane?

British libel laws are ridiculously strict.  But at least they were always confined to Britain.

Now, Brit courts apparently think they have jurisdiction over the entire world.

First it was a suit against Rachel Ehrenfeld, over her book Funding Evil.  The book was not published in the UK, but Sheik Khalid Salim a bin Mahfouz, accused by Ehrenfeld of helping support bin Laden, has sued her.  Apparently, proof that someone sold the book to someone in the UK is enough to give jurisdiction, at least in some deranged Englishman's mind.

Now, the Brits are targeting Arnold Schwarzenegger.  This stems from his run for Governor of California, and the Los Angeles Times hit piece that accused Arnie of sexually harassing women.

Schwarzenegger denied the accusation, the Times printed his defense of the remarks.  Since the LA Times is available on the Internet, the Brit court ruled that it had been published in the UK.

Now tell me, how does anyone expect to enforce this nonsense?  Yes, I suppose the British could seize money Arnold's films make in the UK, but the US could seize money in retaliation from BBC America -- after all, the BBC is government funded, as the British courts are.

Stay tuned.  This may get interesting. (Hat Tip: Captain's Quarters)

THE HOUSE OF SAUD MUST BE DESTROYED -- AND WILL BE!
