LA Dog Trainer Lies Again

Senator Bill Frist wishes to save Terri Schiavo's life, at least long enough for her to be evaluated by someone not hired by her husband on the basis of enthusiasm for killing people.

The Los Angeles Times expert, unbiased, objective reporting:
Frist, a physician, pushed his support for action to the point of declaring — on the basis of television footage — that he thought Schiavo might recover.

      That was the first version.

The version available at 10:40 PST:
Schiavo has been in a vegetative state since 1990; she suffered brain damage after a chemical imbalance caused her to stop breathing temporarily. She can breathe on her own, but cannot speak or eat.

Schiavo left no will, but her husband has said that she did not wish to be kept alive through artificial means. The Schindlers maintain that their daughter has been misdiagnosed and could improve with therapy. . . .

Frist. . . earlier had insisted that after a review of videotapes of Schiavo, he had found that she might not be in a persistent vegetative state — a requirement crucial in any order to cut off nutrition.

Sen. Bill Frist on Terri Schiavo, transcript:
I'D LIKE TO CLOSE THIS EVENING SPEAKING MORE AS A PHYSICIAN THAN AS A UNITED STATES SENATOR AND REALLY SPEAK TO MY INVOLVEMENT AS A PHYSICIAN. . .

I ASKED MYSELF: DOES TERRY CLEARLY HAVE NO HOPE OF BEING REHABILITATED OR IMPROVED IN — IN ANY WAY?  AND IF YOU ARE IN A TRUE PERSISTENT VEGETATIVE STATE, THAT MAY BE THE CASE.  BUT AGAIN, IT'S VERY TOUGH DIAGNOSIS TO MAKE, AND ONLY BY PUTTING FORTH THAT REHABILITATIVE THERAPY AND FOLLOWING OVER TIME DO YOU KNOW IF SOMEBODY'S GOING TO IMPROVE. . .

SO I ASKED, DOES SHE HAVE A WRITTEN DIRECTIVE OR DID SHE AT THE TIME? AND THE ANSWER WAS NO.  AND DID SHE HAVE A CLEAR-CUT ORAL DIRECTIVE, AND THE ANSWER WAS — WAS NO. . .

I CALLED ONE OF THE NEUROLOGISTS WHO DID EVALUATE HER AND EVALUATED HER MORE EXTENSIVELY THAN WHAT AT LEAST WAS ALLEGED OTHER NEUROLOGISTS HAD, AND HE TOLD ME VERY DIRECTLY THAT SHE IS NOT IN A PERSISTENT VEGETATIVE STATE. . .

I TALKED TO HER FAMILY AND HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET HER SON, AND HER SON TOLD ME THAT SHE IS RESPONSIVE. . . THERE WAS SOMETHING LIKE 34 AFFIDAVITS FROM OTHER DOCTORS WHO SAID THAT SHE COULD BE IMPROVED WITH REHABILITATION.

The Dog Trainer is not in any way biased.  It's just that the extensive research done by them, shows that Terri Schiavo ought to be starved to death.  The research consists of noticing that many, perhaps most, of the people who want to save Terri's life are Christians, so they must be in the wrong.  Only a stupid, close-minded, right wing fanatic would mistake the Dog Trainer's attitude for prejudice.

Seriously, there are important legal and moral issues involved in this case, and the Time's total refusal to think about them, or to interview sources with more than one viewpoint is a disgusting comment on what was once a decent newspaper.

THE HOUSE OF SAUD MUST BE DESTROYED -- AND WILL BE!
