The Iraq Insurgency -- In a Way, It is Viet Nam Again

Summary:

We're still winning, but this is the time that tests our resolve.

  • In the Civil War, WWI, WWII, some of the fiercest fighting came just before the collapse.  So too here.

  • But it won't be easy.  There's a lot of killing left to be done.

Two very good posts on the warfighting and casualties over at Belmont .  A third good post at Asia Times Online, from "Spengler."  Together, they show what we're up against .

The Iraqi Sunni insurgents/terrorists know they can't win on the battlefield.  They hope to break our will to resist, just as it was broken in Viet Nam.  After that, they hope they can conquer the Kurds and the Shi'ites.  If they can't, well, many of them would still rather go down fighting than live in a land they don't rule.

And so, we have to just keep on, till we kill and capture so many of them that the ones left are the not-brave, not-suicidal.  As of now, it depends on us.  “Stick it!” as they said in WWI, and we win.  Flinch and lose.  It's that simple.

THE HOUSE OF SAUD MUST BE DESTROYED -- AND WILL BE!
