A Certain Confusion in the Senate

The Senate has passed a bill (ht: Glenn) setting standards for military detainees.  Interestingly, some of the standards are those already set forth in Armed Service field manuals(see this Mudville Gazette post), which makes me wonder why it needs to be written into law .

The bill also forbids treatment that is unconstitutional for the treatment of U.S. citizens under arrest.  It does not automatically make them citizens, or make bearing arms against the U.S. by detainees who aren't members of foreign militaries a crime subject to U.S. penalties for treason.  Which leaves me wondering why terrorists should have the protections of U.S. citizens, without the legal obligations?

All this says to me, the whole subject needs a LOT more thinking.

THE HOUSE OF SAUD MUST BE DESTROYED — AND WILL BE!
