Good Article on French City Policy and French Political Weakness

From the Beeb, by way of Publius, it's a description of a complete failure lasting nearly three decades.

        As sociologist Sebastian Roche says:
"If you do not accept that these policies have failed, what would it take to recognize failure?"

Of course, being the Beeb, it describes France's economic interventionism as a "center-right" policy.  Still, however it mischaracterizes the policies, it recognizes they aren't working, and a lot of why they aren't working.

Another Beeb article Publius notes notes the parallels to 1968 that were the theme of my Predictions on the French Intifada.  This is notable because the author, BBC world affairs editor John Simpson, is quite leftist, gratuitously denouncing the Iraq War for example.  Simpson also mistakes French law enforcement policies for toughness (roving sniper teams who photograph people committing arson, then kill them, is toughness).  But Simpson does recognize that the French Government, and French society, are weak, and that that weakness is what brought the rioters out.

        Both recommended.
